Isaac Dogboe stops Juarez as world title beckons

Isaac ‘The Royal Storm’ Dogboe won the WBO Interim World title bout on Saturday night by dropping Mexican Cesar ‘Corazon’ Juarez and called for the blood of Jesse Magdaleno.

A left hook exactly two minutes in the 5th round decked Juarez out of contention.

The packed Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra was alive as the two boxers made their way into the ring.

The Number One ranked Juarez came out like a man on a mission, promised to push for a knockout victory in Dogboe’s own backyard.

But the entire shift of the fight quickly changed when Dogboe took the fight to his Mexican opponent with swift body works and fast jabs.

Isaac Dogboe decked Juarez in the second round and began to punish him with hard shots.

Juarez did his best to rally for the next two rounds, but Dogboe proved too much to contain.

A hard left hook on two minutes in the 5th round sent Juarez rolling again on the canvas.

But this time, referee Tony Weeks had seen enough and waved off the fight, as Juarez staggered.

Juarez was previously scheduled to fight the champion, Jessie Magdaleno, but the champion withdrew with a wrist injury.

The Mexican boxer’s team petitioned the WBO, leading to the mandatory fight with Dogboe for the WBO-interim title.

Dogboe immediately issued out a challenge directly to Jesse Magdaleno.

“Jessie Magdaleno, I’m coming for you baby. I know you are going to run, but the African Lion is coming.”

Magdaleno is scheduled to return to the ring on March 10, as part of an ESPN televised card which is going to feature Oscar Valdez in the main event with a defence of his WBO Featherweight crown against Scott Quigg.

The date remains a good time enough to make the Magdaleno-Dogboe fight, which is a little more than two months away, a possibility.

But it is believed Jesse Magdaleno would want to avoid Dogboe, at least in March.

He is now under order to make a mandatory defence against Dogboe, nonetheless.

If Magdaleno does not fight Dogboe, the WBO will strip him of the belt and elevate Dogboe to full champion status.

Cesar Juarez, whose records now drop to 6 losses in 31 fights, is back to the drawing board after the knockout defeat at the hands of undefeated Isaac Dogboe, who now has 18 wins with 12 knockouts.
